Course Name: Creating Backgrounds for Watercolor Paintings
Description: A common question encountered by artists in painting with watercolors is: “What do I do with the background to finish my painting?” Some artists recommend preparing the background first. While others paint the central object or focus, then use colors in the overall painting to complement or guide the eye of the viewer. Students will develop various techniques to create backgrounds at the beginning and at the end of the artwork. Students will create backgrounds involving geometric designs, mingling warm and cool colors, using complements, blending washes, negative painting, lifting, and using contact paper. Bring your painting or reference photos to complete those paintings.- Day and Time: Tuesday, 12:30-3:00 pm
